Quick Pro Tips for Visiting Adelaide:
I have been living in Adelaide for many years. And based on my own experience, I will give you some pro tips. These pro tips will be very helpful for you when you are visiting here.
Best Time to Visit:
You can explore Adelaide at any time of the year you want to. But I recommend you to avoid visiting here in the Summer (December to February) and Winter (June to August). In summer, the weather is quite hot. The temperature falls between 30-35°C . And it rises up to 40°C sometimes. The city is too overcrowded. So you will find it very difficult to get around with ease due to the excessive heat and rush. In winter, the temperature is mild but it can be rainy. So you will be unable to enjoy the outdoor scenery to the fullest.
Based on my personal experience, I recommend you to visit here during Autumn (March to May) and Spring (September to November). This is the best time to visit this city. During Spring and Autumn, the weather is very nice. The days are warm and the nights are cold. The city is not overcrowded. The parks and botanical gardens are in their full bloom. And the city is having a lot of events and festivals at that time. Visit here in these seasons. And you will love it.
The Adelaide MetroCard:
The Adelaide MetroCard is a real blessing in Adelaide. I got my Adelaide MetroCard the day I entered here. This card has been my companion for many years now. I use it every day in my daily journeys. And it has saved me a lot of time and of course, money. If you want to get around the city with ease, then you must have to use your Adelaide MetroCard.
You can use your MetroCard while you are traveling on trains, trams and buses. Tap on and off the card while boarding on and off. And that’s enough. Adelaide MetroCard is a comfortable and easy way to travel on public transport. So I recommend you to buy your Adelaide MetroCard as soon as you step in Adelaide. And it will save you a lot of time, energy and money.
Peaceful Streets and Friendly Locals:
Adelaide is among the top 3 safest cities of Australia, ranking at No 2. It bears an unbelievable safety score of 67. I have been living here for a long time. And I never felt any danger while walking around the streets at day or night.
The people of the city are very friendly and welcoming. They are very cooperative and helpful to the visitors. Adelaide has an extensive network of comfortable, affordable and safe public transport. I still recommend you be aware of your surroundings if you are traveling solo. But overall, the streets and surroundings of this city are very safe and secure for both day and night outings.
Dress Code:
Adelaide is a pot of people from different and diverse backgrounds. They have different ethnicities and cultures. So there is not a specific dress code that you must wear. I have been here for quite a long time. I wear different types of clothing from all those years. I do experiments with my dresses too. And I have never had any problem with that till now.
I recommend you to wear casual clothing in public places, malls, restaurants and markets. You can wear beachwear in coastal areas like Glenelg beaches. But I still suggest that you should avoid going shirtless in public places. Besides that, you can wear anything that makes you comfortable. And you will fit right in.
Cashless Payments and Cards:
Adelaide is a big and modern city. So nearly all the markets, restaurants and malls accept cards and contactless payments. I have been living here for many years. And I never had any issue while paying with cards. But, I always keep some amount of cash for small vendors and local markets. It is because sometimes, they may not accept cashless payments. So I recommend you carry a small amount of cash with yourself. And You will be good to go.
Nature and Wildlife:
Adelaide is home to pristine parks, mesmerizing botanical gardens and unique wildlife. I recommend you to visit the Adelaide Hills, Cleland Wildlife Park and Kangaroo Island. These are some of the best sites offering the most unique flora and fauna. You should visit them all.
But remember not to harm the local animals and plants. The locals of this city are very friendly and helpful to the tourists. But they have deep love and respect for their parks and wildlife. So you should respect them too. You should follow the rules and regulations in the national parks and wildlife conservation areas. And enjoy the unbelievable beauty of the city to the fullest.
Airport Transfer:
There are different options like buses, taxis, and rideshare services for airport transfer. But I strongly recommend you to go for the Adelaide Metro’s JetExpress service. Adelaide Metro’s JetExpress service is the quickest and convenient airport transport option from Adelaide Airport to the city center.

And it will take you to the city center in 15-20 minutes. You can use your Adelaide MetroCard on both J1 and J2 buses. Tap it on and off. And that’s it. You will find many free WiFis in different public places, train stations, restaurants, boutiques, malls, public libraries and even in the airport. My most favorite among them is the O-Bahn Busway. I usually ride a bus through that way while traveling to the northeastern suburbs. And it is indeed a beautiful and scenic way to travel. I recommend you to go for these buses while you are roaming around Adelaide. And you will love them too.
You can find these buses’ schedules and their routes, from Google Maps. You can use your Adelaide MetroCard on these buses. Just tap it on and off. And that’s enough. Board on them and navigate every corner of Adelaide with ease.
Taxis/Uber:
Taxis are readily available all over Adelaide. You can find them with ease in the streets, in front of malls, restaurants or markets. The cars are new and well maintained. How To Plan Your Adelaide Itinerary:
One day is too little to explore the whole of Adelaide. But if you only have one day in hand, then I recommend you start early in the morning with a visit to Adelaide Botanic Garden. Next, head towards the Art Gallery of South Australia. Then move towards the Rundle Mall. Have your lunch at a nearby café or restaurant. Do some shopping if you want to. Then move on fast and spend your afternoon visiting the South Australian Museum. Next, I propose you take a sunset walk along the Glenelg Beach. Explore it and enjoy your dinner at one of the amazing beachside restaurants. And you have explored enough of Adelaide.
If you have two days, then I urge you to add a visit to Adelaide Central Market. Here you can buy local produce and have some snacks. Explore it in the morning. Then you can visit Adelaide Oval. You should spend your afternoon in the North Terrace precinct. Next, move on to your dinner in the mesmerizing East End. And that’s all you can have in two days.
For a three-day trip to Adelaide (the one I personally recommend the most), I recommend you spend two full days in the city as per the above suggestions. For your third day, make a trip to Adelaide Hills. Next, move on to the charming village of Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. Then visit Mount Lofty for some panoramic views of the city. End your day with a visit to one of the best local wineries in the Hills region, like Shaw + Smith or Penfolds Magill Estate. And you will be done with all the eye-catching iconic views.
If you have four or more days in your hands, then I recommend you explore more of Adelaide’s surrounding areas. You should visit the Fleurieu Peninsula beaches for some beach relaxation. It’s something you cannot experience anywhere else. You should also take a day trip to Kangaroo Island to experience its unique wildlife and pristine beaches. I urge you to spend a day at the Barossa Valley. It is one of Australia’s best premier wine regions. And you will never forget the amazing experiences.
